Hey, yeah, for the last few months CEA and Forethought and a few other organizations have been working to try to help accurately explain EA and related ideas in the media. We’ve been working with experienced communications professionals. CEA recently also hired a Head of Communications to lead these efforts, and they’re starting in September. I think that it was a mistake on CEA’s part not to do more of this sooner.
I think that there might be a post sharing more of about these efforts in the future (but not 100% sure this will happen).
Thanks Max—really good to hear. Will CEA’s Head of Comms be focussed more on CEA comms or EA Movement comms? I see some other comments about not over-centralising this but I also worry about capacity for one person/someone with more than one brief to monitor and be proactive about the whole space?
Sorry for not being clear. They’ll be focused on communications for effective altruism (obviously working with a lot of our partners), rather than for CEA itself. We might expand the team further once the Head of Comms is in place, but this is the start.

There’s also a previous update from an earlier stage of this work: https://forum.effectivealtruism.org/posts/zgHWeMBPnCMvdoZvz/ea-will-likely-get-more-attention-soon

Definitely a really positive development though.

That’s really excellent to hear.
