This essay had a large effect on me when I read it early on in my EA Journey. It’s hard to assign credit, but around the time I read it, I significantly raised my “altruistic ambition”, and went from “I should give 10%” to “doing good should be the central organizing principle of my life.”
I know many smart people who disagree with me, but I think this argument is basically sound. And it has had, for me anyway, formed a healthy voice in my head pushing me towards strong conviction.
