I had approached it from the perspective of “there isn’t an organization called Effective Altruism, so anyone claiming to work for it is somehow stretching/obfuscating the truth,” but I think I was wrong. While I have seen people use an organization’s name on LinkedIn without being associated with the organization, your example of maintaining a resource for the EA community seems permissible, especially since you note that it is volunteering.
