Summary from Center for Effective Altruism’s Youtube channel:
“How should we think about fundraising for effective charities? Are there particular sorts of donors we should focus on more? What does the distribution of opportunities tend to look like? In this talk from EAGX Netherlands 2018, Stefan Torges sketches out these and other considerations.”
I thought this was a excellent talk, because it highlights and formalizes something quite fundamental and counterintuitive about effective altruism: it’s often better raise a quite a small amount of money from very few people for very effective projects over a large amount of money for less effective projects from very many people.
