I’m curious about the accommodation you provided. The itemized breakdown notes that it was mostly airbnbs. Was it self-booked and compensated or centrally organized? Was taking out a block of rooms at a hotel or hostel considered?

Thanks @David M. Your comment kept me up at night. Knowing that some appointee has, in a couple weeks, undone so, so much good-faith work fills me with rage. All I want is to see the world come together for our most vulnerable so this mothereffer sees what we do and learns shame.

I’ll never forget sitting in a room and getting the pitch from XR about how sortition could get us out of the climate mess. My interest is piqued and would love to see where this conversation goes.
I’d like to see a dialogue with Direct Cash Transfer advocates to identify an opportunity for funds to be directed to a community or ‘village’, and how that may compare to transfers to individual people. It could pick up important cultural values along the community vs. individual agency continuum.
The cruelty is heartbreaking.

I’m sorry, but after reading the article I’m still unsure what the final decision is.

Thanks for doing the yeoman’s work of building a chapter, gathering applications, reviewing them thoroughly with local context, and sharing your findings here! I’m sorry to hear that you found the most of applications of a low quality, and hope that in time, excellent locally organized charities emerge.
A couple questions that would help me get a fuller picture:
How did the cash value of the contest winnings compare to other grants that local charities may have spent their time working on? If it was a large value, I would expect these applications to be approximately the best they could do and therefore an higher-fidelity assessment of the charity landscape in your vicinity. If the pot was of a smaller or comparative value to what local charities occupy themselves with, I would imagine they would just throw an application together and not put the diligence you would hope for. The amount it would be over and above normally valued contest entry (or grant application, what have you) would help show if the contestants took your contest as seriously as you did.
Who were the contestants? Were the contest participants the same ‘we’ who held the seminars in 2021-2022?

I met Bolun at EAG and can attest that he’s a deeply reflective yet action oriented person. I was impressed at his stories of collaborating with his peers to put together two hackathons. I would recommend employers, mentors, or project leaders to connect with him.
