Cool website!
One question: why are most of the SOTA models Claude? Is it because Anthropic is the company that releases the most data about their models? I thought that by most measures, Gemini would be the SOTA model today.
Very inspiring, well done!
Cool project!
One point of improvement I noticed was that when it asked for zip-code you could only add American ones, I would suggest adding an option to choose different countries! I think the platform could be especially popular with Europeans, so I would suggest focusing on adding those countries first.
Anyway, I like the platform and I feel like it has a lot of potential to do good. Good work!
Far-future effects are the most important determinant of what we ought to do
I think we need to take a mixed approach, as it is extremely hard to predict what will happen in the far future. Improving the world today will also generally make the future better.
For further reading on this topic I would highly recommend the book âThe Divideâ by Jason Hickle. In this book he shows how the trade rules and international trade organizations are set up in an extractive way, and how more money flows out from Africa to Western countries than the other way around.
I think changing the ways the global economic organizations see development, and opening for more policy flexibility for low-income countries is something that can make a huge difference in development efforts long-term.
I like this! Though I feel like a lot of the numbers are based on long-termist speculation rather than empiricism, which I think could hinder it from being widely adopted. It might also be cool to add how many lives the billionaires could potentially save if they donated most of their wealth.
I just came across this, and Iâm shocked at how similar the list of most-read books is to mine. I have read a majority of those books, most of them long before I became an Effective Altruist. Maybe Goodreads is the place to effectively find new people to join our movement, haha!
Great post! One of the biggest mistakes the EU has made is essentially making snus illegal to sell in stores, and severely restricting access to it online (although it is handled a little bit differently in different countries). I think one of the most impactful and tractable things the THR movement could do is to target this policy.
I like the new strategy! Being more focused and setting this audacious goal seems like a good idea. I must say I also like that you mention digital marketing in the post, and I would urge you to continue your short-form video content creation, as organic social media growth can be a huge source of growth these days. I think that in general, EA orgs have a lacking presence on social media (maybe because most EAs donât use it to that large of an extent?), but in general it is a great way to reach the general population and help incite value changes, IMO.
Very nice work!
What is the point of securing a future for humanity if that future is net-negative?
Cool quiz!
Great initiative! I have personally met many people interested in creating a positive impact in the environmental field, but who are disappointed by the limited options EA provides regarding this. Good luck :)
Thanks for this! I will definitely try to implement some of this helpful advice :)
