The only CEA-organised “party” I’ve been aware of at an EAG was a drinks reception with live music at the venue for maybe a couple of hours on the final evening.
I might be with you on discouraging attendees from organising parties around that time, especially large, public ones branded as “EAG afterparties.” Probably not, but possibly. I think it’s great that people are able to catch up with long-distant friends while they’re briefly in town and I don’t feel like it’s my place to opine on people’s decisions to see their friends unless it seems seriously harmful, although I do personally hate all the false rumours and gossip about which parties are the “coolest” that some of these gatherings generate. But either way, I think it’s important to recognise that these are organically, independently organised. You can’t blame CEA for them or vote on them not happening.
I’m worried that your suggestion and comment give the impression that CEA currently organises wild “romantically active” parties at EAGs when that doesn’t seem to be the case.
Why?
I guess the people I’ve heard argue this:
”Parties create the atmosphere of a community and often a romantically active one, as opposed to a professional network”
