I want to re-open the discussion of norms for jobs postings on the EA Forum. I found your previous one on plant-based meat careers and Claire and Luke’s on cybersecurity careers to be really useful and I’m glad they were posted, but on the other hand I don’t think the EA Forum should be yet another channel to post just any job opening—we already have a bunch of places for that and there’s a collective action problem with using up article slots for this.
I think this one crossed the line a bit too much for me, so I’m downvoting it for now. I think compared to the others, this one was less informative about the impact of the careers and a bit too transparently self-serving by advertising jobs working directly with you in your org.
Maybe now that we have more advanced forum features and a community section this is less of an issue than it was, so I’m fine if the community disagrees with me here.
Fwiw, I think the post’s title contributed to the vibe Peter described. Calling it “3 jobs for policy-oriented EAs” and making a reader click through to find out the relevant cause pattern-matches to clickbait especially because all three jobs are at the same org (where you work) so the title easily could have been something like “The Good Food Institute is hiring three people to work on regulatory and policy issues related to clean meat.”
Thanks for this feedback, Peter (and thanks to Scott for responding productively!).
Someday, it might be nice to have a section of the Forum devoted to discussion of job postings. For now, my policy is to allow these but mark them as “Personal Blog”, so that they are visible in “All Posts” (and can be shared as links, etc.) but don’t show up on the homepage by default. I’d welcome any feedback on this policy.
Sounds good, thanks for flagging, Peter! My last post did fairly well in terms of upvotes. If this one doesn’t do well or moderators strongly disagree with my posting, happy to remove it or not do so again in the future.
Of course! I’m going to leave this post up but not plan on submitting posts like this in the future. Let me know if anyone wants me to take it down and I will!

Yeah I agree the title was very exciting but lead me to expect more of an overview of how to get a career in policy.

Thanks! I still appreciate everything you do to get more people in great jobs.
