Effective Altruism movement in LMIC and Africa
Greetings everyone! I am seeking feedback from the EA community on how group organizers in LMICs and Africa can effectively tailor the effective altruism movement in their regions, make the most impact, and progress the movement in their area. What areas should we focus on, such as promoting effective giving, higher impact careers, research, community building, advancing EA knowledge, raising the profile of EA cause areas, and promoting charity efficiency and effectiveness locally? I welcome any additional ideas.
Is there any evidence or research on developing and approaching EA in LMICs and Africa? Please provide details and evidence when putting in inputs. Also, take into consideration the term “LMICs.” I am open to discussion and new ideas. Thank you!

Good question. I recommend reading “Poor Economics” for a background on these questions.
Not a full response, but two points.
1. Giving has less impact—as an LMIC resident you probably have less money so giving directly has lower impact. Also you can buy goods at that price anyway.
2. Improving policy has more impact—You can influence your government in ways that rich countries cannot. You likely also have access to more parts of your own society to study different perspectives. Poor Economics discusses tools for changing policy in LMIC’s better than I can.
