AI Winter Season at EA Hotel
About The Event
CEEALAR (https://www.ceealar.org), née EA Hotel, is making the AI Winter we want to see in the world. Our very first ‘AI Winter’ season is now happening at our coliving/coworking hub in Blackpool, UK where we can host up to 30 people.
The season will last until end of January, and over that time we’re looking to host a mix of grantees (individuals and teams) from each of the ‘core’ domains of AI Safety—technical research, conceptual research, governance/policy, outreach and field building.
We imagine some people will be staying with us for more or less the whole season (or longer! Our max stay is 12 months), while others will be staying for weeks or days to participate in smaller projects, hackathons or unconferences.
Our goal is to provide a critical mass of concentrated activity, workshops, bootcamps, in an environment with high potential for serendipitous connection of people and ideas, such that Interesting Things Happen.
About Us
We’re offering fully catered (we pay for the food, you occasionally help cooking it) accommodation, coworking space, all the whiteboards and post it notes your heart desires, a home gym, and a great community.
We operate on a ‘pay what you can’ basis, and we’re happy to fully cover the cost of your stay where needed—our raison d’etre is to remove wealth as a bottleneck for working on meaningful problems.

YOU CAN MAKE AI WINTER HAPPEN
We’re a very small team (2 staff + volunteers), and we’re trying to run this on top of our usual responsibilities; it’s a lot, and we could honestly use some help.
Signal boost the event: our theory of change is that there’s a ton of early career AI Safety folk out there stuck in limbo—they’ve done some upskilling, maybe they’ve attended a fellowship or two, but they’re lacking a place to actually knuckle down and do some serious work, and people to do it with.
We want these people to know we’re here! We want to give them a chance to do meaningful work and grow their skills. We’re also looking for people who are more experienced, who can mentor others or lead projects—they could make a real impact here.
Finally, a little extra funding (£1500-3000) would cover the travel costs of our volunteer workshop organizers.
Looks like the hyperlink doesn’t work for me. You could edit it to be “https://www.ceealar.org/″ or ”http://ceealar.org/″ instead :)
Thanks for catching that, fixed.
