Itâs risky because this is the first time this program is to be run, and the planning is still somewhat early in its development. Some advisors have agreed to it, but more still need to be found (if youâre reading this and think youâd be a good fit, reach out!).
What do you mean by âadvisorsâ here? Like mentors for the program participants? Or like advisors on the running and strategy of the program?
There are other similar summer programs hosted by SERI and other longtermist centers, and these accept applicants globally. Itâs unclear how many promising students both belong to universities in Switzerland and wonât attend other competitive summer programs.
The CHERI siteâs FAQ says âThe summer research program is open to all students from Swiss universities and for Swiss students that are currently studying abroad. If you are finishing or starting your studies in 2021 you are eligible to apply as well.â So not just current university students in Switzerland itself. Additionally, I believe CHERI ended up being open to candidates from elsewhere in Europe (including the UK, not just continental Europe).
(But itâs very plausible that these things changed since the time the LTFF was thinking about whether to make this grant and/âor writing this payout report was originally written. Iâm just letting readers know what I believe the most recent facts are.)

I was thinking of primarily the former, but the latter would also be useful.

Originally it was primarily focused on the Switzerland community. My impression is that later on things changed (after the grant was decided), particularly because there was more global demand this summer than expected.
