It seems like one could ground some of these numbers in the data we have on the EA movement. For example, I would trust this more if someone looked at the EA survey data and took the top 10% of people in terms of % of income they currently donate and see what % of the total money moved to effective charities they make up. I would guess that very dedicated EAs make up almost all the money moved in the EA movement. Is this a perfect proxy for utility? No but it seems to be a lot better than numbers drawn more from intuition.
