Talking to the media well is harder than people think
If I know/trust a journalist and think they are genuinely interested in understanding, it’s good to provide them with information
Explicitly ask to be off the record to start with
Talk as if I am on the record, at least until I trust them more
Talk about what I think, not what EA thinks
Only agree to quotes that I would have freely provided
Do not say things that everyone would hate if they knew I’d said them
Tell Shakeel who I am talking to
Be open to waiting a month or so until a particular story has settled down (I was pretty moody that my friends told me not to talk to journalists around the FTX stuff, but they were right and I was wrong)
I’ve regretted part of a quote I gave before I decided I’d type my quotes up myself. Otherwise, fine. Have only ever contributed to articles that people I asked thought were good, but pretty small sample.
