Just to clarify, would you take on an additional 60000 dollars worth of debt in order to donate it?
If so, I find this admirable, though I would also advise caution, since you can also have impact with your direct work, which might be more difficult if you have a lot of debt. For example, you might want to start a charity or take an unpaid internship to get started in an altruistic career. This might be harder if you have to pay off a lot of debt.
Can you also give an estimate how much more valuable you think donations right now are?

thank you for the thoughtful reply! I think what you say about insect farming makes sense, I also like this cause area a lot. Although it looks like I am more worried than you about the indirect effects on other farming practices, like fish farming or factory farming of land animals.

Maybe this trade would be quite risky for Bob unless it is enforced so strictly that the risk profile for Alice is very similar to just borrowing money from a bank.
I havenāt thought about this a lot, but my impression is this doesnāt work for smeared probability distributions and a medium level of risk aversion?
Letās say Alice thinks there is still a 20% chance AGI doesnāt happen super fast /ā doesnāt have transformative impact and she needs to pay back a loan in 10 years. Then if she doesnāt want to take the risk of not being able to pay in these timelines, she cannot really donate all of the loan now.
On the other hand, a 20% chance that Alice has to donate a lot of money to global health doesnāt look like such a big risk, at least if she doesnāt have to donate everything right away.
But maybe the difference here is my implicit assumption that owing donations to Bob isnāt a big of a risk as owing money to a bank, because the former might cut Alice more slack and give her more time to pay.

I am voting based on my prior that animal work is more impactful as it is more neglected and there are so many more animals.
