I’d recommend Amplify as a much needed initiative given, as EAs, we mostly don’t get it right or are inadequate when it comes to marketing our services and overall whatever we can offer the world at large. Impact can be maximised when we (especially the EA groups/communities and its services like Effective Thesis, etc) are visible and surfacing the mainstream avenues/channels.
Hi Dion! Just read this and since you’re exploring other cities, I’m willing to coordinate future events in Kolkata, India. As per our group mentor’s (CEA fall OSP′25) suggestion we’re also looking forward to filing to host an EA Summit in Kolkata next year. I’m unable to attend this year.
Has anyone had an issue with ‘edited’ appearing beside your text? For instance, I’ve recently introduced myself in a group that I was added to, mentioning almost everything I’m currently working on rn except for my name lol. But the urge to not add ‘edited’ in the very bottom (becomes worse if shown on the top for me) had led me to actually avoid/not adding my name to the text.
Those tabs will never fail to offer a true omg moment!
Popstar Billie Eilish’s question “If you’re a billionaire, why are you a billionaire?” and her succinct advice “Give away your money” in a recent award show raises hope for Altruism in coming times is what I think!
Ah thanks so much for the recordings. It’s 10:30 pm at our place otherwise!
Is the career consultation option still available? I was thinking of referring my group members to it.
Wanted to upvote this post twice!
Voted! All the best!
I’d be doing less good with my life if I hadn’t heard of effective altruism
I’d always say this—EA found me and I’m glad it did! This movement and global community has uplifted my perception. I’ve realised there’s an infinite possibility that can be unlocked with the right kind of altruism.
Really liked the word ‘unconference’ ! Entire idea sounds very cool, especially this line: “Tired of pretending we’re dead serious 100% of the time?”
This was truly helpful and I read it twice just in case:)
I am sure the power dynamics can be overwhelming to cope with especially when you need a chance to prove yourself for the first time. I would like to learn how to keep being patient in the process until you find that one aligned funder. How did you manage to keep yourself patient till you found the right funder?
This was so inspiring! Thank you Sofia. Two major takeaways for me was “don’t try to solve everything at once!” and “Never do what a funder tells you to do unless you think it’s the right thing to do.” I’ll remember this:)
Thank you for linking the wikipedia! Yea I was particularly interested in the impacts (“aftermaths” in my question). Are you aware of any such article on the aftermath?
I think that data ethics and drug ethics together or as separate social functions can save humanity at large.
Hey thanks for this! I mean my community is focused on ‘career driven altruism’ and not ‘donation driven altruism’ cause I understand the per capita income in India is highly fragmented and mostly unfavorable. But judicious career decisions can change the scene. Income is directly proportional to Value generation I feel and hence choosing career that are valuable (above conventional ones) can ultimately make Indians ‘earn to give’ ready.
I feel like the FOMO is real when it comes to overlapping sessions in events like EA Connect :)
