Characteristically thoughtful post, @NickLaing! I did a double take when I realized “CoGi” was referring to Coefficient Giving. For the record, our preferred shortenings are Coefficient or CG (or cG, there’s active debate on the capitalization in our internal slack—said internal slack perhaps being a very small part of the broader problem you’re writing about).
But you might struggle to control “the people” on this one, there has been as lot of “CoGi” and other variations floating around. When said out loud starting with “co” is catchier than starting with the letter “c”. Also there’s a strong associatoin between CG and computer generated? There are like 3 separate threads in the replies to your renaming post discussing possible shortenings, and I think all suggestions start with “co” lol.
Also, for those of us working in AI governance, ‘cG’ and ‘CIGI’ (the Center for International Governance Innovation) sound the same out loud. But in writing, I tend to use cG too.

Thanks appreciate that a lot :)
For the record my vote is for cG.

These are the important things which define organizations.
As for me I I will respect cG’s wishes ;).
“CoGi” is my ride or die, especially verbally
