Man, I was just re-reading the âwhy I donateâ posts while compiling the Digest. Some really beautiful sentiments in there.
I grew up in a deeply ironic and uncaring culture (i.e. I went to an all boys school). I didnât like it! It means a lot to me to be in a community now where people can write such heartfelt and authentic posts.
Some of my favourites:
Lorenzoâs post, for a great articulation of money considered as a vote: ââŹ1.70 votes to be allocated into a slice of pizza for Lorenzoâ or â$5.85 votes for an insecticide-treated bednet for a family in DRCâ
Aaronâs post: this one made me emotional, which surprised me given the Pokemon-rap context. I think it was the picture Aaron made of the world conspiring to create something he loved.
Thank you! Quick note that âmoney not being yoursâ is not what I personally believe or wanted to convey in the post. I (sometimes) think my money is my votes, and I want to use them to vote for the things I think are most valuable.
I think it was Amritâs great post and others that mentioned things like âI donât think thereâs an especially important sense in which âmyâ money is mineâ
âUnder my Christian worldview, nothing I have is really âmineâ anyway, and part of being a good human is to pass on what Iâve been handed, and even better multiply it if possible.â
I think how I see it feels a bit different because I see money more as tool to use than as a resource to share. I think it should be used to help improve the lives of others, but it does importantly feel that itâs my responsibility that mine gets used that way. Not sure if that makes sense.

Benthamâs Bulldog: The title alone is wonderful âA Life That Cannot Be A Failureâ
Yeah Iâve never seen such an abundance of âheart warmingâ on the forum. I feel like this topic opened that opportunity a bit too.

Yes I and I think one other post? had something along similar lines too :).
Yeah you literally wrote:

Iâm not sure how âtool to useâ and âresource to shareâ are so differentâwhat do you think the important distinction is there?
Completely agree on the responsibility front.
Fair point Lorenzo, that was sloppy phrasing. Iâll amend the original. I wasnât sure what to pull outâI honestly just loved the post overall.
