People who don’t want to see threads about FTX can hide them, through the tagging system.
Admins manually removing FTX discussion from the front page (a) makes it harder to see discussion that people here (judging by voting and commenting) are very interested in and (b) could make it look like we’re trying to hide something embarrassing.
You could also enter into “other” a factor less than one if you want to multiply, rather than add or subtract, the karma. You might try entering in .25 if you want to see 1 or 2 FTX Crisis posts. Clicking “Reduced” corresponds to a factor of .5.
I don’t think b) is true if there’s a temporary banner at the top of the page linking to it. And a) seems to be generalisable to the argument that we should never use (eg) FB feed blockers because they use votes and likes to show us what we’re most interested in.
Yeah, I’m not saying the posts should be banned, just a quick and dirty algorithm to remove them from the frontpage, with an opt-in option to unhide them.
While you can click “hide” topic, I had forgotten about it, and it wasn’t obvious how to before I read the comments. Besides, I agree that it would be healthy for the community if the Frontpage wasn’t inundated with FTX posts. (After I hid the topic, the forum suddenly felt less angry somehow. Oo)
When you’re on the Frontpage, you see fewer Community posts. With a separate tab for Community, I think it would be fine if FTX crisis posts were hidden by default or something, or hot-topic posts were given a default negative modifier. (We don’t want the forum to waste time.)
I suppose it would also be nice to have an option to collapse the tags so they take up less space.[2]

Yep, you just click “+” → “FTX crisis” → “Other”, then type “-100″, and the FTX stuff goes away
Edit: or even simpler “+” → “FTX crisis” → “hide”
It’s easier than that:+ > FTX crisis > hide.

Sorry, edited my comment to add “admins” before “manually”.
I agree, but I also think we should leave everyone the space to make statements and express their opinion on the topic, seems tough to balance.
For now you can click on “Hidden” after mouseovering on the “FTX crisis” tag, to see the other posts

I’m in favour of this!

Here’s a suggestion for how it could look.[1]

(I’m wondering if I should tag this post as “FTX” 😶)
I had the same thought, and figured I’d leave it open :P
