I like the new name and meeting outside!
Donāt let perfect be the enemy of good.
As you say that we shouldnāt ignore system 1 completely, just because itās uninformed and unadjusted, we shouldnāt ignore utilitarianism.
I feel utilitarianism works quite well, when we stop and consider when what weāre doing feels off.
Relevant quote by Eliezer (https://āātwitter.com/āāesyudkowsky/āāstatus/āā1497157447219232768):
Go three-quarters of the way from deontology to utilitarianism and then stop. You are now in the right place. Stay there at least until you have become a god.
Iāve just created the event for the next workshop on Jun 20 (Tue), Climate Change (Shenanigans Workshop)
Everyone knows about climate change by now, but the exact consequences of rising temperatures are still unpredictable. While there are promising approaches, the issue is highly politicized and the benefits of many popular initiatives are questionable. And what is the potential of new approaches yet to come? Do we even have enough time?
Iām happy to see you there again if youāre interested in that topic as well. :)
Belief: I thought Russia would not invade Ukraine until it actually happened.
Reasoning: Russia is intertwined too closely with the EU and especially Germany. The CIA is lying/āexaggerating to disrupt the cooperation.
What was I (possibly) trying to protect: I might have held economic partnership and entwinement in too high regard. I also might have thought that war in Europe was a thing of the past.
Iām trying to keep track of when I change my mind, but itās hard to notice when it happens and what exactly I thought before!
Can you give an update on the RCT?
Iāve just created the event for the next workshop on May 16, Teaching how to teach (Shenanigans Workshop).
An amateurās unqualified musings on learning and relating
Weaving together mindfulness, rationality, teaching and authentic relating.
Weāll explore something in the direction of how to teach yourself, teaching as a metaphor for relating, and how to apply insights from it to what you care about.
Iām happy to see you there again if youāre interested in that topic as well. :)
b. Moreover, the usage of insect feed may provide chickens the ability to forage and select what specific insect they want which is a behavioral trait insects keenly prefer as opposed to not having that choice.
Should the second āinsectsā be a āchickensā?
Great article, Iāve not thought about it in that much depth.
In Germany, the debate focuses solely on insects for human consumption at the moment.
Since we talked about calibration and I suggested exercising the right confidence intervals: Thereās a website for that!

Reminds me of the saying, āThe best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second-best time is now.ā
Thereās a new sequence on the EA Forum about forecasting /ā predicting the effectiveness of different interventions. I find it very interesting so far: Cost-Effectiveness Analysis for Everything: Predicting the Cost-Effectiveness of Deploying, Evaluating, and Developing New Interventions, and Beyond
The methods are probably too complex for personal use, but a demonstration of how forecasting can be applied on an institutional scale.
Thank you very much for the interesting case study. It not only gives good insight into your method, but also showcases a promising intervention.
Do you know what the current state of it is? Is it being developed further? Is it looking for funding?
Iām confused by āAnti-Malaria Foundationā. Do you mean āAgainst Malaria Foundationā or is this an organization Iām not aware of?
Hey everyone,
The next workshop will be on Forecasting!
More details are in the event:
Forecasting (Shenanigans Workshop)
I hope you donāt get too bothered when you receive notifications here, on Slack and on Telegram.
Here are Georgās slides: https://āāyesnodebate.org/āāslides/āāeaberlin
Hey all,
thanks to everyone for making the workshop great, especially Georg. Iāll post his blog article here and on the Telegram group as soon as itās done. Message me if you are somehow not in the group yet and want in.
You can also message me if you are interested in anything else: https://āāt.me/āātruemilli

Hey everyone,
the next Shenanigans have been scheduled for March 21st. Itās on Yes/āNo debate, a simple ruleset for running an effective debate with another person on any disagreement you may have.
Check it out: Yes/āNo Debate (Shenanigans Workshop)
The next topic will be Doing a āfull-time mental health sabbaticalā on Jul 18.
Anton will try to convince us to spend some time to work on our mental health full-time.
And why shouldnāt we? Long-term mental health is important for everyone, regardless of whether we have current problems or not. He already gave the talk at the Summer Camp a few weeks ago, and it was one of the best attended sessions.
