What is the Forum Prize?
The EA Forum Prize was an initiative to recognize and reward posts that exemplified the Forum’s goals: clear, well-researched, and well-organized writing that aimed to inform rather than persuade. More than an incentive, the Prize served to highlight standout content as a model and inspiration for the broader community.
Eligibility and Voting Process
Each round considered all posts published during a given calendar month or specific time frame, excluding those by staff or judges, procedural announcements, link-posts with little commentary, and posts that received fewer than five upvotes.
Judging panels varied over time, typically including a mix of Forum moderators and high-karma users. Judges recused themselves from voting on content by themselves or colleagues. They were given ten base votes per month, with bonus votes carried over from the previous month if underused. A cap of three votes per post ensured distribution. Posts were selected through approval voting with runoff votes used to break ties. Winning comments were selected by a designated moderator.
Sunset of the Prize
After three years, the Forum Prize was discontinued due to limited evidence of its effectiveness as an incentive. Judges consistently volunteered their time without compensation, and their work was appreciated.
